When I logged on to the Baranof Enquirer today I spied this Letter To The Wetsy that demanded a quick response. But not from me. This was right up the alley of my illegal housekeeper so today I'm passing the keyboard to one of the JOTR Nuts of The Round Table W/Four Corners to respond to Art Zimmer's replacement.
I can hardly believe the Kodiak Daily Mirror published this Crap. Oh wait it's the Mirror and no-one that works there reads it. Rosalina Banaga refers to an AP article called " Taking on God, again", which is basically a quick review of Christopher Hitchens new book "God Is Not Great". She does what atheists hate about arguing with believers and ties her entire argument to faith.(They win the argument every time but the fact less faithful have no idea)
"Religion has for its essence faith — the believers' unshattered faith in God's goodness and that He is the way, the truth and the light." she says.
Listen up people. If you really believe there is a God, and that he is all powerful.. THEN HE IS A DICK. Have faith in that. There is so much suffering in the world that only a dick would stand by and let it happen. God is not great.
She also asserts "Hitchens bitterly criticized Mother Teresa who was known as the Living Saint and a true disciple of Christ. This shows his ignorance of the Christian virtues particularly the virtues of faith, charity and kindness. He says 'There is beauty in atheism.' "
Criticize a woman in a missionary position? Holy Cow. The truth is Mother Teresa set up hospitals orphanages, hospices. Money donated to her went to keeping the terminally ill barely alive. Parts of money raised were certainly used to "help" dieing, hopeless people find Christ. In 1997 Ted Byfield of The Alberta Report said she(Mother Teresa) felt suffering would bring people closer to Jesus. WTF! That's worse then taking your impressionable children to a place where they drill dogmatic songs into their little heads until they believe in an imaginary friend.
An atheist would have probably spent most of the money helping the poor get out of poverty before they got sick, suffered and were at their most impressionable. An atheist would allow for someone to choose to painlessly end their hopeless lives and not have to suffer for another moment.
Ms. Banaga also says "A simple layperson like me cannot help wondering: How can Hitchens account for his very existence? Was it not through the power and mystery of God? What other power could have brought about the creation of mankind and the world?"
You got me there Rosie. Not even Charles Darwin could explain that away. When the simple minded can't immediately answer something they credit it to God. The thinking mind works through the problem and will do so until it is solved. There is more than one book out there.
I believe there are more atheists out there than one might think. Peer pressure to believe exists. Even Mother Teresa questioned her religion in her private letters that were made public after her death. Don't be ashamed if you don't believe in God. If people were truly faithful there would be no crying a funerals and women would have to stay off the furniture when it was that time of the month.
