This article HERE pretty well sums up what I have been telling people for the last 20 years since taking Earthquake Country at Humboldt with Dr. Gary Carver. Carver actually moved to Kodiak where he still lives so it must be the safest place on Earth except for the sea, bears, and The B&B. I recall him saying, and don't quote me, or him, that when the plate slipped in 1964 that the pressure was off the area for our lifetime and we'd probably never have anything over a 6.0. Wonderful.
